TikTok Pixel, Events API and TikTok ads for COD stores

The TikTok Pixel is what turns TikTok ads from views into measurable orders: without it, TikTok can’t optimize delivery toward people likely to buy. For a cash on delivery store, TikTok is a second channel next to Meta, often a good fit for products that show well on video.

This guide explains how to create a TikTok Ads account, install the TikTok Pixel and the Events API, structure a first test campaign within the minimum budgets, produce suitable creatives and measure results in delivered orders. To find products on TikTok, see our dedicated guide to trending products.

How TikTok ads work

As on Meta, a TikTok Ads campaign has three levels: the campaign (the objective and, optionally, the budget), the ad group (audience, placements, budget, schedule, optimization event) and the ad (the video, text and link). For a store, the useful objective is sales or website conversions, which requires an installed Pixel and incoming events.

From account to the first measurement in delivered orders.
  1. Sign up on TikTok for Business with a business email address.
  2. Enter your business details: name, country, store website.
  3. Choose your market’s time zone and currency: they drive how budgets and daily reports are read.
  4. Add a payment method and check the billing details.
  5. Invite the people you work with using their own access instead of sharing your login.

TikTok Pixel and Events API: measuring orders

The TikTok Pixel is code on your store that sends visitor actions (page view, add to cart, order) to TikTok. The Events API sends the same events from the server, covering cases where the browser blocks the Pixel. TikTok now recommends the Purchase event for an order and Lead for a form; the older names CompletePayment and SubmitForm are still recognized.

If you use both, the deduplication documentation requires the same event_id in the Pixel and the Events API: TikTok keeps the first event received and discards duplicates arriving within 48 hours. An order number makes a good event_id. The principle is the same as for the Meta Pixel and Conversions API.

Your first TikTok test campaign

According to the TikTok Help Center, a campaign’s daily budget must exceed 50 USD and an ad group’s 20 USD (or the equivalent in your currency). A simple structure to test a product:

  • One campaign with a sales or website conversion objective, optimized for the order event.
  • One ad group per country, with a broad audience: the algorithm needs volume to learn.
  • Three to five videos that differ by their hook, not just their music.
  • A rule written in advance: how much to spend before cutting a video, and which cost per delivered order to aim for (see our product test campaign method, which also applies to TikTok).

TikTok creatives that sell with cash on delivery

  • A hook in the first seconds: the problem or the result, shown rather than announced.
  • A native tone: shot on a phone, to camera or as a demo, like an ordinary TikTok video.
  • A clear offer: price, delivery and payment on delivery said or shown before the end.
  • Refresh: prepare new hooks every week; our video ad guide gives a scripting method.

TikTok’s advertising policies apply to the video and the landing page: result claims, before/after images, health or beauty products and misleading prices are common reasons for rejection. The product page must match exactly what the ad shows.

Measure a TikTok campaign in delivered orders

Add UTM parameters to your links (for example utm_source=tiktok) and track, for each video or ad group, orders received, confirmed and delivered. The delivery rate by source shows whether TikTok brings orders as reliable as Meta’s in your market.

Summary

TikTok ads can complement Meta for products that show well on video. Create the account in the right currency, install the TikTok Pixel before spending, test a few native creatives with a decision rule, and judge each video on cost per delivered order. Frequently asked questions

What is the TikTok Pixel?

It is code on your store that sends TikTok the actions of visitors who came from your ads: page view, add to cart, order. It lets you measure results and optimize delivery toward the people most likely to order.

What is the minimum budget for TikTok ads?

According to the TikTok Help Center, the daily budget must exceed 50 USD at campaign level and 20 USD at ad group level, or the equivalent in your currency. Plan enough budget for each tested video to get sufficient delivery before you decide.

Do I need the TikTok Events API?

It’s recommended if your platform supports it: the Events API sends events from the server and covers cases where the Pixel is blocked. Use the same event_id in the Pixel and the Events API so TikTok counts each order only once.

TikTok ads or Facebook ads for COD?

Both can work; it depends on the product and the market. TikTok suits products that demonstrate well on video, while Meta often gives you more measurement history. Test with the same decision rule and compare cost per delivered order, not cost per click.

Why are my TikTok ads rejected?

Common causes are result claims, before/after images, restricted health or beauty products, misleading prices or a landing page that doesn’t match the video. Review TikTok’s advertising policies and fix the video or page before resubmitting.

You launch the store and the ads. The center does the rest.
